Oh. My. Goodness. Where to even start? When I lived in NC I was part of a wonderful group called "Ladies Book Exchange". While I like to be selfish and take credit for the idea, it went so much further than I could have expected. I ended up handing the leadership role over to my two good friends, Karen Naber and her sister Hannah Ashley. I really, really miss it...I made some wonderful friendships and read some beautiful books.
What we did at these excahnges are meet somewhere convenient, nearly always somewhere that had food, because books and food are pretty close to heaven! :) We would each bring a book, take turns talking a little about the book we brought, then excahnged books and scheduled a date for the next month (except during the holidays, in which we met every other month).
I got the book "Lydia" from a dear friend, Anita Keith, at one of these exchanges. She simply loved it, and I believe another lady had read it and loved it as well, so I was pretty excited to get it home and read it.
O.M.W. What a book! It was beautifully written, a pure page turner I simply could not put down. I finished it in one day, and reread it twice before the next book exchange.
As you probably figured out, it follows the story of Lydia from Acts 16. Lydia was a maker of purple cloth, which I always knew...one thing I had never considered that the author brought to light was the fact that she was a working woman in a time when women didn't work except out of necessity. In the story you read about how Lydia met Paul and Silas and how her life changed so completley. What struck me most was how not only her life was changed, but so were so many she had contact with. What an amazing testimony! That's what I want...a Lydia testimony!
I plan on checking out more books from this author from the Library and possibly adding them to my bookshelf. That's a little something I've begun doing; reading a book from the library, then purchising used on Amazon. I used to buy from this AMAZING book store in Mebane, NC called 5th street books that had 25 cent book sales once a month, but I'd buy sooo much, it accumUlated more than I had room for! So now I read a book from the library, and if I LOVE it, I buy it!
A big shoutout to my dad, Dave Remaley, who sent me an amazon gift card which frugual me used to get 3 amazing books (one of which actually has 5 books in it!)
