Several weeks ago I saw a blog post that went viral among my fellow preschool/daycare teachers. It was a letter from a parent to their child's preschool teacher. It was heartfelt and touching and I have felt compelled for weeks to write a letter from a preschool teacher to a parent.
Dear Preschool/Daycare Parent,
I see you every day, either in the morning or in the afternoon. I try to take a moment to talk with you, to form a relationship, but it's not always possible. Please forgive me those mornings/afternoons when I barely say "Hello" or "Goodbye". I would love to have a conversation with you, but sometimes I have two million other things going on all at once.
Please know I don't just teach your child. I genuinely love and care about your child more than I can express. When they hurt, I hurt. When you tell me about things going on in their life, I feel joy for the good things, and sorrow for the bad. I pray for your child every single night.
I personally have no children of my own yet, although I strongly long for my own children. Teaching your children fills that empty spot in my heart and makes me feel whole, at least for about 8 hours a day. Other teachers have children, but leave them with others (be it grandparents, spouse, another preschool teacher, or the school system). They miss their children throughout the day, so being able to teach and love yours brings them so much joy.
I know I'm not always 100% on top of things. Please have patience with me. I promise I am doing the very best that I can.
You are the key to your child's success! Please read the notes I send home, please return paperwork, please participate as much as you are able. I'm not trying to be annoying or overbearing. When a parent steps in and helps, the children learn that much more!
Finally, I want to say thank you for trusting me with your child every single day. I know in today's world, it's difficult to trust anyone, let alone anyone with your child for most of the day. Your trust in me means more than you'll ever know.
Thank you for everything,
Your child's preschool/daycare teacher
